UniPro's Statement on President Trump's Executive Orders

Pilipino American Unity for Progress, Inc. (UniPro) condemns the recent executive orders of President Trump, including the restriction of refugees and immigrants entering the United States based on country of origin and religion.

As Filipino Americans, we recognize the struggles that our community, parents, and the generations before us faced - to make the difficult decision to leave the Philippines, to establish new lives in a foreign country, to persevere through toil and discrimination - in order to forge a brighter future for our families.

For eight years UniPro has striven to empower Filipino Americans, not only to know our rights and history, but also to become leaders for social good. Acquiescence to the presidency of Donald Trump - marked by hate, disregard for the law, and disdain for the truth - would be a direct violation of our values as an organization, as an immigrant community, and as Americans. Thus we will resist the Trump administration and all forms of oppression he seeks to impose.

Notes from our chapters:

New York: "New York's sanctuary city status positions us as a leader in the fight for immigrant rights. UniPro New York is committed to resisting the Trump Administration's discriminatory orders, both for our Filipino American youth and in solidarity with other communities of color targeted by their racist and xenophobic rhetoric." - Stephanie Chrispin, President, UniPro NY
